Huawei Technologies and Qualcomm have agreed to a multi-year patent licensing deal covering a broad range of technologies, including 5G, artificial intelligence, computing and networking.

The agreement allows the two technology companies to cross-license parts of their respective patent portfolios. Qualcomm will also acquire certain Huawei-owned U.S. patents related to computing, AI, networking and other technologies, subject to regulatory approval.

The deal marks the first patent licensing agreement between Huawei and Qualcomm to include 5G technologies. Both companies said the agreement reflects their commitment to licensing intellectual property under fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) principles.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The deal comes as Huawei continues to expand its technology and intellectual-property businesses despite years of U.S. restrictions on its access to advanced technology and semiconductor supply chains.

For Qualcomm, the agreement strengthens its position in licensing technologies that underpin modern wireless communications, while Huawei continues to leverage its extensive patent portfolio across telecommunications and emerging technologies.

The agreement highlights the growing importance of intellectual property in areas such as 5G, AI and advanced computing, where companies increasingly rely on patented technologies to develop and commercialize next-generation products and services.
