The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang in connection with the killing of a 44-year-old woman, Mrs Wahab Rukayat, during a robbery attack in Ibadan.
The incident occurred on August 4, 2026, at about 2:30am at the residence of Alhaji Olatokunbo in the Wofun Olodo area of Ibadan. The police said the attackers killed Rukayat and seriously injured other occupants of the house.
The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Akinrinola Oluwatobi, 24-year-old Okunola Mathew and 23-year-old Ibrahim Rabiu, were arrested at a suspected hideout in Sabo, Ibadan, on October 2 following an intelligence-led investigation by the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit.
Police said an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims was recovered from the suspects. Surviving victims also reportedly identified the suspects during an identification parade.
According to the command, the suspects confessed to participating in the robbery and the killing of Rukayat. They allegedly stole mobile phones, wristwatches, $400 and other valuables estimated at N3.493 million.
The police said the suspects also confessed to involvement in other robbery operations around Wofun Olodo and Akobo areas of Ibadan.
The Commissioner of Police directed the relevant units to intensify efforts to arrest other members of the gang and those allegedly involved in receiving or disposing of stolen property.
