The Federal Government has raised N7.15 trillion through domestic bond issuances in 2026 as it continues to finance its budget and support government programmes.
The funds were raised through various domestic debt instruments offered to investors during the year, reflecting the government’s continued reliance on the local capital market to meet its financing needs.
The bond issuances attracted participation from institutional investors and other market players, with proceeds expected to support government expenditure and approved fiscal programmes.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen domestic revenue, manage public finances and fund critical projects across the country.
Analysts say increased borrowing from the domestic market could provide government with the resources needed to execute its plans, but have also stressed the importance of maintaining sustainable debt levels and ensuring that borrowed funds are deployed productively.
The government has continued to explore different financing options as it seeks to bridge funding gaps and implement its economic agenda.
