The Federal Government has launched a digital postal system aimed at reducing missed and failed deliveries while improving the efficiency of mail and parcel distribution across Nigeria.
The initiative is designed to modernise the country’s postal infrastructure by using digital tools to improve address verification, delivery tracking and communication between postal operators and recipients.
The government said the system would help address persistent challenges in the sector, including incomplete addresses, difficulties locating recipients and unsuccessful delivery attempts.
The digital platform is also expected to support greater transparency in the movement of parcels, allowing users to receive more accurate information about the status and location of their consignments.
Beyond improving postal services, the initiative could support Nigeria’s expanding e-commerce sector, where reliable last-mile delivery remains an important requirement for businesses and consumers.
The Federal Government said the reform forms part of wider efforts to modernise public services through technology and strengthen digital infrastructure.
Improved postal delivery could also benefit small businesses that depend on courier and parcel services to reach customers across different parts of the country, particularly as online commerce continues to expand.
The initiative is expected to complement ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s postal system and make deliveries more reliable, traceable and accessible.
