The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed October 9, 2026, for the nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the date during the commission’s North-West zonal interactive meeting and readiness assessment in Kaduna.
The commission said three phases of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise produced 10,772,421 new registrations nationwide, subject to biometric verification. INEC is now working to ensure eligible citizens can collect their cards without facing administrative or logistical obstacles.
Amupitan called for the removal of bottlenecks at the Local Government Area level, warning that delays in PVC distribution could prevent eligible voters from participating in the elections.
The commission is also upgrading its voter verification and result-transmission systems as part of preparations for the 2027 polls. Its new Result Management System includes the recently introduced eEC8A, while a “Zero-Failure” logistics strategy is being implemented to strengthen the deployment of electoral materials, security coordination and training of ad-hoc personnel.
INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, followed by governorship and State House of Assembly elections on February 6.
