Three women have been killed and another person injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attackers reportedly stormed the mining site at about 4.30pm on Monday and opened fire on workers before fleeing the area.

The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident, saying three women were killed while another person sustained injuries.

A community member, John Silas, also confirmed the attack, saying the gunmen opened fire on people at the mining site.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of residents and workers in the area, which has experienced several attacks in recent weeks.

Tengwong called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the attackers and ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.

Residents also appealed for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks and protect people carrying out legitimate economic activities in the community.

As of the time of reporting, the identities of the victims had not been disclosed, while security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
