U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed plans to meet Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for dinner, as debate intensifies in Washington and the technology industry over the risks of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence.
Trump said he remains opposed to slowing AI development, arguing that tighter regulations could weaken the United States’ technological position against China. He said maintaining U.S. leadership in AI was more important than restricting the pace of development.

Amodei has raised concerns that moving too quickly with advanced AI could increase safety risks and has called for stronger safeguards. The meeting comes amid broader calls from technology leaders, including figures associated with OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Microsoft and xAI, for greater attention to AI safety and regulation.
Trump has continued to dismiss warnings about AI systems potentially becoming dangerous. He told Fox News that he was not concerned about incidents involving so-called rogue AI agents and said he remains confident in the technology and its potential.
The meeting also comes as pressure grows on the U.S. government to establish clearer safeguards for advanced AI systems. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has separately called for lawmakers and law enforcement agencies to become more involved in determining requirements for AI monitoring and safety.
