Super Eagles invitee Aderemi Adeoye produced a stunning free-kick as Ikorodu City defeated reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rangers 2-0 on Sunday.

Adeoye opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a superb long-range free-kick that curled into the right corner of the net, giving Ikorodu City an early advantage.

Ikechukwu Junior doubled the hosts’ lead in the 63rd minute as Ikorodu City secured their second league victory of the season after five matches.

The goal was Adeoye’s first in four league appearances this season, adding further attention to the 19-year-old midfielder ahead of his potential senior international debut.

The defensive midfielder is among the players invited by Nigeria for the Super Eagles’ international friendly against Russia in Novgorod on October 6.

Adeoye was previously called up for the Unity Cup in May, but an appearance against Russia would represent his first senior outing for the national team.

He joined Ikorodu City in January 2026 and scored once in nine appearances during the second half of last season.

The Russia-bound squad will be captained by Wilfred Ndidi, with Moses Simon, Stanley Nwabali, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Benjamin Fredricks, Raphael Onyedika and Akor Adams also included.

Several players could make their senior international debuts, including Finland-based goalkeeper Samuel James, Switzerland-based defender Victory Akpe, Fulham’s Chibuzo Nwoko, Stephen Michael of Vendsyssel FF, Igor Wilfred of Kristiansund FC, Ridwan Abdulrasaq of Al Wasl and Suleiman Mubarak of Slavia Prague.

Nigeria’s other attacking options include Benfica forward Peter Edokpolor, Abubakar Umar of Famalicão and Abdullahi Umar of Hradec Kralove.

Adeoye and the other invited players are expected to travel to Russia after Nigeria’s second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday.
