The House of Representatives Committee on Delegated Legislation has written to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant institutions seeking audited financial statements and supporting documents as part of its investigation into the apex bank’s exercise of delegated legislative powers.
The committee is examining concerns surrounding the CBN’s financial reporting and the use of subsidiary legislative instruments, including regulations, guidelines and circulars.
The lawmakers have requested the CBN’s consolidated financial statements for the years ended December 31, 2024 and December 31, 2025, alongside relevant approvals and documentation from the Financial Reporting Council.
The committee also directed KPMG, the bank’s auditor, to submit copies of the audited accounts under review, while former presidential special investigator Jim Obazee was asked to provide documents supporting allegations raised over the financial statements.
The move comes as lawmakers intensify scrutiny of the CBN’s regulatory activities and financial disclosures, particularly following concerns raised over alleged irregularities in its recent audited accounts.
The investigation could have implications for transparency and accountability at Nigeria’s apex bank, while also examining how delegated legislative powers are exercised within the country’s financial regulatory system
