The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for the immediate rescue of 78 schoolchildren abducted in Borno State, describing their continued captivity as “long overdue” and urging security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their safe release.

The association expressed concern over the prolonged detention of the children and appealed to the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to make their rescue a priority. CAN also called for stronger measures to protect schools and prevent further abductions targeting students and vulnerable communities in the state.

According to the association, the continued captivity of the children has caused distress for their families and communities, while also raising fresh concerns about the safety of education in parts of Borno.

CAN urged the authorities to sustain coordinated rescue operations, provide timely updates to the affected families and ensure that all available resources are deployed to bring the children home safely.

The association further stressed the importance of strengthening security around schools and communities to prevent similar incidents and restore confidence among parents, students and teachers across the state.
