Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja for permission to amend their suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026, was filed against Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Atiku and the ADC are challenging what they allege was the submission of a forged National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, discharge certificate to INEC and are seeking Tinubu’s disqualification from the 2027 presidential election.
In their application, the plaintiffs said they discovered errors and omissions in their original court documents. They specifically identified a reference to an INEC Form CF001 instead of Form EC9A.
They also want to provide more details of their allegations, include a written deposition by Atiku and attach clearer copies of some exhibits referred to in the case.
Tinubu and the APC have opposed the suit and denied submitting any forged certificate to INEC for either the 2023 or 2027 elections. Their legal team has also challenged the competence of the case.
INEC has similarly opposed the proposed amendment, arguing that it could introduce a new cause of action and raise jurisdictional issues.
The Federal High Court has fixed October 13, 2026, for hearing of Atiku and ADC’s application seeking permission to amend the originating summons.
