Five miners were killed and two others injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Marit village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack occurred on Saturday while miners were carrying out their activities at the site. The assailants reportedly opened fire on the workers, killing five people, while two others sustained gunshot injuries.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of mining communities in Barkin Ladi, an area that has experienced repeated attacks and communal tensions in recent days.

Security agencies have been urged to strengthen their presence around mining locations and vulnerable communities across the local government area. Community representatives also called for the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.

The latest incident comes amid a series of violent attacks reported in parts of Plateau State, including killings and the destruction of farmlands in some communities.

Authorities have continued efforts to contain the security situation and prevent further attacks. Residents have also been encouraged to remain vigilant and provide relevant information to security personnel.

The attack has further heightened concerns about the safety of residents and workers operating in remote areas of Plateau, particularly communities dependent on farming and mining for their livelihoods.
