The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has recovered and returned N84 million to a businessman, Ekhahon Abraham, following an alleged land fraud in Edo State.
The money was handed over to Abraham through a bank draft by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, on Friday, September 25, 2026.
According to the EFCC, Abraham had paid N84 million to Anita Eborome for a piece of land measuring 115 feet by 135 feet in an Edo community. After making the payment, he reportedly erected a perimeter fence on the property.
However, the fence was later demolished by a man who claimed to be the rightful owner of the land. Abraham subsequently sought a refund from Eborome but allegedly could not recover his money, prompting him to petition the EFCC.
The commission said its investigation established that Abraham transferred the money to Eborome, who allegedly diverted the funds for personal use.
Presenting the recovered money, Sa’ad said the EFCC would continue to carry out its duties professionally and prevent fraudsters from benefiting from illicit proceeds.
