The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over separate allegations involving defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, physical assault and unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were arraigned following investigations into their respective cases.
The suspects include Chinedu Chiekwu, accused of defiling an 11-year-old child, and Sunday Anele, who allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, resulting in pregnancy.
Ugochukwu Okereke was arraigned over an allegation of luring a 13-year-old girl to a bush and sexually assaulting her, while Ebuka Nwachukwu was accused of luring a six-year-old child into his room and sexually abusing her.
Ogechi Ofoma was arraigned over an allegation of using a heated kitchen knife to injure her five-year-old daughter, while Obianuju Okafor faced an allegation relating to the unlawful procurement of abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
The police also said a separate case involving a 36-year-old woman had been investigated, with the case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for necessary legal action.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse and ensuring that victims receive appropriate protection throughout the legal process.
