The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, has intensified enforcement against filling stations accused of under-dispensing petrol to motorists across the country.
The regulator directed all retail outlet operators to immediately calibrate and verify their fuel dispensers and totalisers to ensure customers receive the full quantity of petrol they pay for.
NMDPRA described under-dispensing as a serious breach of consumer trust and warned that stations found using improperly calibrated equipment or short-changing customers would face sanctions.
The authority said persistent or serious violations could lead to the revocation of an outlet’s operating licence. It has also intensified inspections and enforcement operations nationwide.
Industry associations, including IPMAN and PETROAN, have circulated the directive to their members and ordered checks of dispensing meters. PETROAN also urged motorists to monitor the quantity displayed on pumps and request receipts after purchases.
