Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as Deputy Chairman of his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The appointment was announced on Thursday as Atiku’s campaign council unveiled its leadership structure. Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu was named Director-General, while Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will chair the council.

The council also includes former Edo State Governor John Oyegun as Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Council, with several other political figures assigned to various directorates.

El-Rufai’s appointment adds another prominent political figure to Atiku’s campaign team as opposition politicians continue preparations for the 2027 presidential election. The former Kaduna governor has remained active in national political discussions since leaving office and has been involved in debates surrounding opposition efforts and the future direction of Nigerian politics.

The campaign council is expected to coordinate nationwide mobilisation, communication, policy messaging and engagement with stakeholders as the political parties and their candidates prepare for the next general elections.
