The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has commenced a review of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, to assess how the test can better reflect skills required in real world situations.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, inaugurated a committee comprising education stakeholders and experts to examine the current examination format and consider the inclusion of critical thinking, analytical reasoning, life skills and other practical competencies.
The committee is expected to review the proposal, draw from perspectives across the education sector and make recommendations on possible improvements to the UTME.
JAMB said the exercise is part of its continued efforts to ensure that the examination remains relevant to the changing needs of tertiary education and adequately assesses the abilities candidates will require beyond the classroom.
The board noted that the review would focus on identifying areas for improvement while ensuring that the UTME continues to serve its purpose as a major assessment for admission into higher institutions.
