US President Donald Trump is set for a busy round of diplomatic meetings at the United Nations on Tuesday, with the wars involving Iran and Ukraine expected to dominate discussions as world leaders gather in New York.
Trump is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly before holding bilateral and group meetings with more than 11 world leaders from across four continents. His engagements are expected to focus heavily on the continuing conflicts and wider international security concerns.
Among those on Trump’s schedule is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is expected to push for an energy truce with Russia amid growing concerns that attacks on Ukraine’s power and heating infrastructure could intensify ahead of winter.
The conflict involving Iran is also expected to feature prominently, particularly during Trump’s meeting with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The wider Middle East crisis has raised concerns over regional stability and the security of important shipping routes.
Trump is also due to meet British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Venezuelan interim leader Delcy Rodriguez, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen.
The meetings come as the UN General Assembly opens against a backdrop of multiple international crises, including the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war and continuing instability in the Middle East.
