Six people have died and two others sustained injuries in a road crash along the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The crash occurred on Saturday when a truck collided with a commercial vehicle along the busy route, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The Kogi State Sector Commander, Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Residents of Odo-Ape reportedly joined efforts to rescue victims from the wreckage before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Fagge said six people were killed in the collision, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were taken for medical attention.
The bodies of those who died have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Kabba.
The FRSC attributed the crash to speeding and warned motorists against dangerous driving practices, particularly excessive speed and unnecessary overtaking.
Fagge also urged motorists to avoid driving when fatigued, stressing that compliance with basic road safety measures remains essential to reducing fatalities on Nigeria’s highways.
The incident adds to concerns over road safety on major highways, where speeding, fatigue, dangerous overtaking and other forms of reckless driving continue to contribute to serious crashes.
The FRSC urged motorists to exercise greater caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
