A union representing workers at Micron Technology’s Taiwan operations is continuing to push for a permanent profit-sharing agreement, while keeping preparations for possible strike action in place as negotiations with the U.S. chipmaker continue.

The union wants 15% of Micron’s global operating profit to be shared with employees, saying workers should benefit more directly from the company’s strong performance amid surging demand for memory chips driven by artificial intelligence.

Micron has offered substantial bonuses to employees in Taiwan, including a special payment of up to T$1 million for eligible workers. But union leaders argue that one-time bonuses do not address their demand for a formal and transparent profit-sharing system.

The dispute comes as Micron expands its role in the fast-growing AI semiconductor market. A strike at its Taiwan operations could raise concerns about supply disruptions, particularly for DRAM and high-bandwidth memory used in AI infrastructure.

Micron has said it remains committed to dialogue with the unions as mediation efforts continue.
