British police have arrested two people in London as part of an investigation into suspected offences under the National Security Act linked to Iran.

The Metropolitan Police said a 42 year old woman and a 60 year old man were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service. Both were released on bail until late October.

Police said the investigation is not connected to a series of attacks earlier this year targeting Jewish and Iranian linked locations across London.

Those incidents included fires at Jewish community ambulances, a synagogue and a former synagogue, as well as attacks targeting the Iran International media organisation and a memorial wall dedicated to people killed in Iran.
