Shelton Stuns Alcaraz as Alcaraz’s US Open Title Defence Ends

American Ben Shelton stunned defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a dramatic five set quarterfinal at the U.S. Open on Tuesday, winning 6 7(5), 6 1, 6 3, 1 6, 7 6(10 7).

Alcaraz took a closely contested opening set and twice fought back to level the match, but Shelton raised his level in the decisive moments of the final set to secure the biggest win of his career.

The defeat ended Alcaraz’s bid for consecutive U.S. Open titles, while Shelton advanced to the semifinals on home soil.
