OpenAI is deepening its partnership with Samsung Electronics as the AI company expands efforts to develop next-generation chips and strengthen its artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, said the companies have made significant progress in joint research and production of next-generation chips, although he did not disclose specific technical details. The collaboration marks a broader expansion of ties between the two technology giants across semiconductors and enterprise AI services.
The partnership builds on an existing relationship in which Samsung is supplying advanced memory semiconductors for OpenAI’s AI infrastructure initiatives. Samsung has also deployed ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex across its workforce, making it one of OpenAI’s largest enterprise deployments globally.
OpenAI’s push into custom chip development comes as demand for computing power continues to surge with the rapid expansion of AI. The company previously unveiled its first custom AI chip designed with Broadcom, while Samsung’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities could become increasingly important as OpenAI seeks to secure the hardware needed to scale its next generation of AI systems.
The growing cooperation highlights the increasingly close relationship between AI model developers and semiconductor manufacturers, as companies race to build the computing infrastructure required for increasingly powerful artificial intelligence.
