Egbin Power has commenced the 11th edition of its annual scholarship programme, with more than 250 students from its host communities participating in the 2026 pre test exercise.

The initiative is designed to provide free quality education to outstanding pupils and students selected from primary and secondary schools within communities hosting the company.

The scholarship programme is part of Egbin Power’s corporate social responsibility efforts and is focused on improving access to quality education while creating opportunities for young people in its host communities.

The 2026 edition will include an education fair, boot camp, mentorship sessions and playgroup activities aimed at strengthening participants’ academic performance and supporting their personal development.

The programme will also place emphasis on skills and values such as discipline, confidence, leadership and other life skills considered important for the students’ long term development.

The company said the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

Speaking on the programme, Egbin Power’s Chief Executive Officer, Mokhtar Bounour, said the company viewed education as one of the most sustainable ways of contributing to development in its host communities.

He said the company’s responsibility extended beyond electricity generation, stressing the importance of investing in the future of young people living around its operations.

The latest edition continues a scholarship programme that has become one of the company’s key community development initiatives over the years.

The participation of more than 250 students in this year’s pre test exercise highlights the level of interest among young people in the host communities and the demand for educational support.

Beyond financial assistance for schooling, the programme has increasingly incorporated activities intended to improve students’ confidence, academic abilities and leadership potential.

Egbin Power also said its broader community development efforts cover healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure and human capital development.

For communities around the company’s operations, such initiatives provide an opportunity to address some of the educational and social challenges that can limit the prospects of young people.

The continued investment in education also comes at a time when improving learning outcomes and expanding opportunities for children remain major priorities in Nigeria.

By combining scholarship support with mentorship and skills development activities, the programme seeks to give beneficiaries support beyond the classroom.

Egbin Power said it would continue to pursue initiatives capable of contributing to sustainable development and shared prosperity within its host communities.
