Folarin Balogun’s proposed transfer from Monaco to Everton has officially collapsed after the deal fell through on the final day of the summer transfer window.
The England born United States international had been on Merseyside to complete a move to Everton after the Premier League club reached an agreement with Monaco for his transfer.
The proposed deal was understood to be worth around £40 million, with Balogun expected to strengthen Everton’s attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
However, the transfer encountered major complications after issues emerged during the striker’s medical examination. Despite the two clubs having reached an agreement and the player being in England to complete the move, the deal could not be finalised before the transfer window closed.
The collapse represents a major setback for Everton, who had identified Balogun as an important addition to their forward line following the departure of several attacking players during the transfer window.
Balogun had emerged as one of Monaco’s leading attacking players since joining the French club from Arsenal. His performances in France had also maintained his position as an important member of the United States national team.
Everton had moved quickly to secure the striker after agreeing terms with Monaco, but the late medical complications ultimately prevented the transfer from being completed.
The failed move also had wider consequences for the transfer window. Monaco’s plans for Balogun’s departure were closely linked to their willingness to sanction the sale of Senegal international Lamine Camara to Chelsea.
With Balogun’s transfer to Everton collapsing, Monaco changed its position on Camara’s departure, leaving Chelsea unable to complete the midfielder’s proposed £47 million move despite having reached an agreement with the French club.
Balogun will therefore remain a Monaco player following the collapse of the Everton transfer, while Everton must continue with their existing attacking options after failing to complete the deadline day signing.
The dramatic developments made Balogun’s proposed move one of the biggest transfer stories of the final hours of the summer window, with the collapse also directly influencing Chelsea’s failed attempt to sign Camara.
