The Nigeria Police Force has commenced an investigation into alleged inciting comments attributed to Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, and Senator Francis Fadahunsi.
The development was disclosed by the police amid concerns over statements considered capable of heightening political tension and undermining public peace.
According to the police, the affected individuals are being investigated over comments allegedly made in connection with political activities and developments in the country.
The Force said the investigation is part of efforts to prevent statements or actions capable of provoking violence, disorder or breaches of public peace.
The police are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the comments and determine whether they constitute violations of relevant laws.
Authorities have continued to urge politicians, public officials and other stakeholders to exercise restraint in their public statements, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The police also reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that individuals whose actions or statements threaten public peace may be subjected to investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
