Marseille are awaiting further medical assessments on Nigeria midfielder Daniel Nnadi after the youngster suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s 2-0 Ligue 1 defeat to Monaco.
Nnadi was introduced at half-time in place of Himad Abdelli but spent only 28 minutes on the pitch before being withdrawn in the 74th minute after appearing to sustain a knock.
Marseille coach Bruno Genesio confirmed after the match that the 21-year-old had experienced discomfort in his knee, although the full extent of the injury remains unknown.
“Nnadi felt a twisting sensation in his knee,” Genesio said, according to La Minute OM.
The midfielder is expected to undergo additional examinations to determine the seriousness of the injury. His availability for Marseille’s upcoming Ligue 1 fixtures will depend on the outcome of those tests.
Nnadi has so far been used as a substitute this season, and any extended absence would leave Genesio with fewer options in defensive midfield. Himad Abdelli and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg currently provide competition in the position.
The injury is also an unwanted setback for Nnadi as he attempts to establish himself more firmly within the Marseille squad. The Nigerian impressed during the country’s Unity Cup campaign and also featured in international friendlies against Portugal and Poland in 2026.
Marseille began their Ligue 1 campaign strongly with a 4-0 victory over Strasbourg but suffered their first setback of the season against Monaco.
Paris Brunner scored in both halves to give Monaco a 2-0 victory and maintain their perfect start to the campaign.
Nnadi made his senior Nigeria debut at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, coming on for 14 minutes during the Super Eagles’ 3-1 win over Uganda.
With further medical checks required, both Marseille and Nigeria will now wait for a clearer diagnosis before determining how long the midfielder could be sidelined.
