Everton have agreed a deal with Manchester City to bring Jack Grealish back to the club on a season long loan.
The 30 year old England international is expected to undergo his medical before completing the transfer, with both clubs working to finalise the move before the transfer deadline.
Grealish spent a significant part of last season at Everton on loan and made a strong impression under manager David Moyes. He registered two goals and six assists during his spell on Merseyside before a foot injury brought his campaign to an early end.
His performances during that period convinced Everton that another temporary move would strengthen their attacking options. The club remained interested in bringing the winger back throughout the transfer window despite competition from other clubs.
Grealish is understood to have preferred a return to Everton, where he enjoyed regular football and an important role in Moyes’ attacking system.
The move also comes at a significant point in Grealish’s Manchester City career. He joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a British record £100 million and has since won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
However, competition for places and injuries have limited his opportunities in recent seasons. A return to Everton provides Grealish with another opportunity to play regularly and rebuild his form.
The winger made 159 appearances for Manchester City and scored 17 goals during his time at the club. Although he remains under contract with City, he is entering the final year of his current deal.
Everton will hope Grealish can reproduce the creativity he displayed during his previous loan spell. His ability to create chances, carry the ball and operate from the left side is expected to add another dimension to the club’s attack.
The agreement is also part of an ambitious period of transfer activity for Everton, who are reshaping their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
For Grealish, returning to Everton offers the chance to regain confidence and establish himself as a key player again. Regular football could also help him return to contention for England selection.
The transfer remains subject to the completion of his medical and final registration procedures, but the agreement between Everton and Manchester City represents a major step towards Grealish’s return.
