Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as the club works to complete the transfer before the summer window closes.
The 22 year old Senegal international has emerged as Chelsea’s preferred midfield target as the club seeks to reinforce the position following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City.
Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with Camara on a five year contract, according to reports, with the player keen on a move to Stamford Bridge. However, negotiations with Monaco over the transfer fee remain ongoing.
The French club are understood to be demanding more than £50 million for the midfielder, while Chelsea have seen multiple proposals rejected. Their latest offer, reportedly worth around £47 million, was turned down as Monaco continue to push for a higher fee.
Camara has become one of Monaco’s most important midfielders since joining the club from Metz in 2024. His performances have also established him as a key member of the Senegal national team.
Chelsea’s pursuit has accelerated following Manchester City’s agreement to sign Fernandez for a reported British record £125 million. The departure of the Argentina international has left Chelsea looking for a replacement capable of adding energy, defensive strength and creativity to their midfield.
Camara fits the profile of the player Chelsea are seeking, having impressed with his ball winning ability, passing range and physical presence.
The Blues are now racing against the transfer deadline to reach a final agreement with Monaco. While there have been reports of an agreement between the clubs, the latest updates indicate that the transfer fee remains the major obstacle.
Chelsea will therefore need to reach a compromise with Monaco before the deadline if they are to complete the signing of the Senegalese midfielder.
If the deal is concluded, Camara would become one of Chelsea’s major late additions and could immediately be considered for a key role in the squad.
