The Nigeria Police Force has invited social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to provide evidence backing his allegation that some police officers at checkpoints collude with kidnappers and bandits.
The invitation followed comments made by VeryDarkMan at the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he alleged that officers identify wealthy travellers at checkpoints and pass information about their identities and movements to kidnappers who then abduct them for ransom.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, described the allegation as unsubstantiated and damaging to the police institution, stressing that claims of such gravity require credible evidence.
The police challenged VeryDarkMan to produce any evidence showing that officers identify wealthy travellers and transmit their details to criminal groups.
The Force, however, said any credible evidence provided would be treated urgently and thoroughly investigated. It added that officers found to have compromised their duties would face disciplinary measures and prosecution.
The police also urged members of the public with evidence of misconduct to report through appropriate channels rather than relying solely on public allegations.
