Chad has accused Sudan’s military of carrying out an airstrike near the countries’ shared border that killed at least 12 people and injured seven others.
The strike reportedly hit a fuel market in eastern Chad, close to the Sudanese border. Chadian authorities said the location was being used by members of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to obtain fuel.
The incident has increased tensions between the two neighbouring countries as Sudan’s ongoing war continues to spill across its borders. Chad has repeatedly raised concerns about the security impact of the conflict and the risk of further cross-border violence.
Sudan’s military has not acknowledged responsibility for the reported attack.
Chad is also hosting hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees who have fled the conflict. Continued violence along the border could worsen the humanitarian situation and place additional pressure on communities already facing displacement and insecurity.
