Youths in Cross River State have apprehended two suspected kidnappers and rescued a toddler who was allegedly abducted from Bunyia Iruan community in Boki Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as 17 year old Suahnen Lorlumun and Sekeghshie Silas, were reportedly arrested by youths in Ogberia Ochoro community in the Mbube area of Ogoja Local Government Area.

The toddler was rescued during the incident, while the two suspects were taken to the Okubuchi Police Outpost by the Clan Head of Bunyia Iruan.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists in Calabar.

Eitokpah said the suspects were taken to the police for their safety following concerns that the youths might lynch them.

The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s abduction and determine the suspects’ level of involvement.

The rescue comes amid concerns over kidnapping and other violent crimes in parts of Cross River State.
