The Adamawa State Government has taken another significant step towards strengthening digital governance and transforming public service delivery with a sensitisation workshop on the State Digital ID Programme for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The workshop, organized by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT and e-Governance, Dr. Hammajam Ahmed Adamu, brought together Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of MDAs, Local Government Coordinators as well as key partners and stakeholders, including Zenith Bank.
The initiative forms part of the administration’s broader commitment to leveraging technology and digital innovation to build a more efficient, transparent, accountable and citizen-centred system of governance in Adamawa State.
The sensitisation programme provided senior government officials with a deeper understanding of the State Digital ID Programme, its relevance to public administration and the role of MDAs in ensuring its effective adoption and utilisation.
The Digital ID Programme is designed to provide residents with a trusted digital identity that can facilitate access to government services while enabling government institutions to improve identification, verification, planning and service delivery.
According to the programme presentation, more than 789,000 residents have already been registered across the 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, with an active Digital ID portal and more than 25 partner agencies participating in the ecosystem.
The system is expected to help government reduce duplication, minimise manual processes, strengthen transparency and accountability, and improve coordination and interoperability among MDAs.
For residents, the initiative is expected to simplify access to government services by reducing repeated registration and verification requirements and providing a single trusted identity for eligible public services.
The programme has applications across several critical sectors, including health, education, agriculture, finance and revenue administration, social protection, security and justice, local government administration, land and housing, business and investment, among others.
In the health sector, the system can support patient identification and access to health services, while in education it can facilitate student records, scholarships and verification. In agriculture, it can support the identification of farmers and beneficiaries of grants, credit facilities and other interventions.
The Digital ID ecosystem can also strengthen financial inclusion and improve the verification of beneficiaries of government programmes, while supporting businesses through digital onboarding, access to finance and incentives, and more reliable identity verification.
The participation of Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of MDAs at the workshop underscores the importance the state government attaches to coordinated digital transformation across the public service.
The involvement of Zenith Bank and other partners further reflects the collaborative approach being adopted to develop an effective digital identity ecosystem capable of supporting both public service delivery and wider economic activities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT and e-Governance, Dr. Hammajam Ahmed Adamu, has continued to coordinate efforts aimed at advancing the state’s ICT and e-governance agenda, in line with the administration’s vision of using technology to make government more accessible, responsive and efficient.
The initiative is also consistent with the development vision of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whose administration has continued to promote technology-driven solutions as part of its efforts to modernise governance and improve the quality of services available to the people of Adamawa.
The workshop therefore marks another important step towards creating stronger digital connections between government institutions and citizens, while laying the foundation for more seamless, efficient and inclusive public services.
With the Digital ID Programme anchored on the theme “One Identity. Better Services. Stronger Adamawa,” the state government is positioning digital identity as an important foundation for its emerging digital government ecosystem.
