Two suspects have been arrested by the Kano State Police Command following a fatal shooting at a wedding ceremony in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano metropolis, where one person was killed and three others injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, when a 34-year-old resident, Rabi’u Mukthar, allegedly came out of his house and opened fire on guests attending the wedding ceremony with a pump-action rifle.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed that Mukthar and another suspect were arrested shortly after the incident. Police also recovered the pump-action rifle allegedly used in the shooting.

According to the police, the suspect told investigators that the organisers of the musical event did not consult residents before holding the programme. He reportedly complained that the loud music disturbed his sleep and subsequently opened fire at the gathering.

The shooting caused panic among guests and residents, leaving one person dead and three others injured.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether others were involved.
