A security guard identified simply as Stanley has been shot dead in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State in an attack suspected to have been carried out by cultists.

The incident reportedly occurred at Royale Estate between 10pm and 11pm on Friday, when armed men stormed the estate and opened fire.

A source said Stanley, who was on duty at the time, was shot several times before the attackers allegedly shot him in the head and fled after firing into the air.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the victim was shot by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle.

The police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said an investigation had been launched to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.

No suspect has been arrested so far, while the police continue efforts to establish the motive behind the attack.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over cult-related violence and the safety of security personnel in parts of Lagos.
