The African Girl’s Guide has empowered more than 37 women through a 12 week mentorship and leadership programme aimed at preparing young women for greater roles in national development.
The founder of the NGO, Jindu Elueze, disclosed this on Sunday at the graduation and award ceremony of the programme in Abuja, saying the initiative is expanding its women empowerment efforts to Nigeria and Ghana.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Elueze said the participants demonstrated commitment and significant personal growth throughout the programme. He urged the graduates and award recipients to see the initiative as the beginning of greater opportunities to serve their communities and Africa.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr Binyerem Ukaire, represented by Mrs Aisha Dabena, commended the organisation for promoting leadership, mentorship, entrepreneurship, employability and personal development among young women.
He said such initiatives would equip women with the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Also, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, represented by Mrs Aisha Mohammed, urged the graduates to lead with purpose and integrity, stressing that fighting corruption requires proper upbringing and values.
The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Mrs Binta Bello, represented by Mrs Kehinde Akomolafe, urged the women to know their rights and carefully verify opportunities received online to avoid trafficking and exploitation.
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa Onilu, also encouraged the graduates to embrace responsible and patriotic leadership, saying true leadership is about creating positive change and inspiring others.
Miss Ezechukwu Chidinma emerged as the overall winner of the leadership programme and pledged to use the experience to make a greater impact in her community.
