Dangote Transport has launched a Driver Monitoring Control Room at its operational base in Ibese, Ogun State, to strengthen road safety and improve the behaviour of truck drivers across its nationwide fleet.
The new facility enables the company to monitor drivers in real time while they are on the road and identify risky driving behaviour so that immediate action can be taken.
According to the company, onboard cameras have been installed across thousands of Dangote trucks through its technology partner, Nova Tracks. The system provides live video feeds and alerts to transport managers, allowing them to detect safety concerns and contact drivers when necessary.
The Head of Operations, Dangote Transport, Ibese, David Idiege, said the initiative was part of the company’s continuous investment in technology, training and operational procedures aimed at reducing road accidents.
He explained that safety remained a major priority because of the large number of trucks operating across the country. He added that the company combines technology with driver welfare programmes, competency assessments, recertification and continuous training.
The Head of Transport Control, Ifeanyi Ezeala, said the monitoring system was designed to be preventive rather than punitive. According to him, the objective is to identify potential risks before they develop into accidents and provide drivers with guidance and support when necessary.
Dangote Transport also uses other safety measures, including speed limiters, vehicle immobilisers, facial recognition devices, journey management procedures, mandatory drug and alcohol testing, compulsory rest periods and regular driver recertification.
The company said the new monitoring system would also provide useful operational data to improve fleet management and decision making.
Dangote Transport said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to reduce accident risks, improve driver performance and promote safer road transportation across Nigeria.
