Six Area Councils Set for 2026 FCT FA Women’s Inter Area Council Tournament

The 2026 FCT Football Association (FCT FA) Women’s Inter Area Council Football Tournament will commence on Friday, August 21, with six Area Councils set to compete for the championship.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10am at a designated venue in the Federal Capital Territory and is aimed at providing female footballers with a competitive platform to showcase their abilities while creating opportunities for the identification and development of emerging talents.

FCT FA Chairman, Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed, will perform the ceremonial kick-off at the opening ceremony, which is expected to attract football stakeholders, government officials, coaches, match officials and supporters.

The competition is part of the FCT FA’s broader efforts to strengthen women’s football at the grassroots and give talented female players across the Territory regular opportunities to compete and gain valuable exposure.

The six participating Area Councils have been divided into two groups.

Group A comprises Bwari, Gwagwalada and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), while Group B features Abaji, Kuje and Kwali.

The group-stage matches will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals.

In Group A, AMAC will host Gwagwalada on Friday, August 21, before Gwagwalada face Bwari on Sunday, August 23. Bwari will then host AMAC on Tuesday, August 25.

The return fixtures will see Bwari host Gwagwalada on August 27, AMAC welcome Bwari on August 29, and Gwagwalada take on AMAC on August 31.

Group B action will begin on Saturday, August 22, when Abaji host Kuje. Kwali will face Abaji on August 24, while Kuje will entertain Kwali on August 26.

The return fixtures are scheduled for August 28, 30 and September 1, with Kuje hosting Abaji, Abaji welcoming Kwali and Kwali taking on Kuje respectively.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, September 2. The Group A winners will face the Group B runners-up, while the Group B winners will meet the Group A runners-up.

The tournament will reach its climax on Saturday, September 5, with the third-place match scheduled for 1pm before the final kicks off at 3pm.

The FCT FA said the competition is designed to establish a sustainable pathway for female footballers to progress from grassroots competition to higher levels of the sport, while strengthening the development of women’s football across the Federal Capital Territory.
