Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a N500 million endowment fund for victims of pre election violence recorded in the state.
Adeleke announced the initiative on Wednesday while receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
According to the governor’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Olalekan Badmu, the fund was established by the state government to support families affected by the violence.
The Adeleke family will also provide full scholarships up to university level for children of those who lost their lives, with beneficiaries to be selected regardless of political affiliation.
According to The Daily Beam, Adeleke said the intervention was purely humanitarian and that no eligible victim would be discriminated against based on political party, religion, ethnicity, gender or social status.
The governor also called for unity among Osun residents following the election, assuring all citizens that he remained governor of the entire state.
Adeleke urged residents to move beyond the election and focus on healing, unity and development, while praying for the families of victims and those injured during the violence.
A special committee headed by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, will oversee the verification and compilation of beneficiaries.
INEC declared Adeleke winner of the election after he secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who won 11 LGAs.
