A Central Planning Committee (CPC) has been inaugurated to coordinate preparations for the formal launch of the Solomon and Mary Lar Institute for Leadership, scheduled for October 27 in Abuja.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the committee, chaired by former House of Representatives member, Mr Bimbo Daramola, was inaugurated on Monday in Abuja.
Speaking at the meeting, the Director of Operations of the Solomon and Mary Lar Foundation, Beni Lar, said the institute was established to promote democratic values, good governance and responsible leadership across Nigeria and Africa.
She said the institute would preserve the legacy of the late Solomon Lar while mentoring young people and promoting values such as integrity, honesty, compassion, dedication and service to the people.
“Chief Solomon Lar was a democratic leader. He was a people’s leader, referred to as the emancipator,” she said.
Beni Lar noted that poor leadership remained a major challenge across Africa, stressing that the institute would provide a platform for developing a new generation of selfless and responsible leaders.
The chairman of the planning committee, Bimbo Daramola, expressed appreciation to the Lar family for the confidence placed in him and pledged to work with members of the committee to ensure a successful launch.
Daramola described the institute as an opportunity to connect the values of past leaders with the aspirations of the younger generation.
He said Solomon Lar’s commitment to nation-building, humility and compassion remained worthy of emulation, adding that transferring those values to future leaders could contribute to a better Nigeria.
The institute is expected to serve as a centre for leadership development, knowledge sharing and human capacity building, with a focus on strengthening democratic governance and responsible leadership.
