The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Bayelsa State Polytechnic chapter, has threatened to mobilise members for a peaceful protest over the reappointment of Dr Wisdom Sori as Rector of the institution.
The union accused the Governing Council of violating provisions of the Bayelsa State Polytechnic Establishment Law 2014 in the process leading to Sori’s reappointment.
ASUP said it had commenced an indefinite withdrawal of services after the expiration of a 14 day ultimatum demanding that the reappointment be reversed.
The union alleged that the council failed to advertise the position, constitute the required search team and conduct the selection process prescribed by law.
However, the Governing Council defended the reappointment, saying it was based on Sori’s performance and the development recorded by the institution during his previous tenure.
ASUP warned that failure to reverse the reappointment could lead to a peaceful protest and other lawful actions.
