The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has urged private security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen intelligence sharing with government security agencies to help prevent and combat crime.
The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu, made the call at the passing out parade of a refresher training course on modern security management for 264 private guard operatives in Abuja.
According to Odumosu, private security personnel should go beyond routine duties by understanding their environments, identifying vulnerabilities and promptly reporting suspicious activities to relevant security agencies.
He urged the operatives to maintain proper records and avoid compromising their professional responsibilities for personal gain.
The commandant also encouraged private security companies to strengthen their internal reporting systems and establish effective channels for communicating with government security agencies whenever necessary.
Odumosu stressed the importance of continuous training and retraining, saying security personnel must remain updated on emerging threats and modern methods of tackling them.
He said the refresher course was designed to introduce contemporary security approaches, correct outdated practices, refresh existing knowledge and prepare private guards to operate effectively within Nigeria’s changing security environment.
In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, FCT Zone, Chief Lucky Ojealaro, commended the FCT Commandant for his leadership and urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training in their duties.
