Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed agreements with two Canadian technology companies, Goose FL and Fireflies AI, to strengthen artificial intelligence capabilities and digital financial services in the country.
The agreements were signed on August 11, 2026, in Toronto and focus on financial inclusion, local AI infrastructure, technology transfer, innovation and digital skills development.
According to NITDA, the partnerships are expected to expand access to digital financial services, particularly for underserved communities, while supporting the development of local technology capacity and reducing dependence on foreign technologies.
The partnership with Goose FL focuses largely on financial inclusion, with plans to develop technology solutions that can make digital financial services more accessible and create new economic opportunities for underserved populations.
Fireflies AI, known for its artificial intelligence tools that record, transcribe, summarise and analyse meetings, will contribute to the development of AI services and skills. Its technology supports more than 100 languages, including English, French, Swahili and Yoruba.
The agreements also support NITDA’s wider efforts to develop Nigeria’s AI ecosystem through initiatives such as the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), including the development of AI solutions tailored to local needs.
NITDA is also expanding its work in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, technology services and digital skills as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s technological independence.
The agency said partnerships of this nature would help connect international technology companies with Nigeria’s growing domestic technology ecosystem while facilitating knowledge and expertise transfer.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader economic agenda, which seeks to grow Nigeria’s economy to $1 trillion by 2030, with digital innovation, technology and human capital development identified as key drivers.
