Big Brother Naija has recorded several instances of housemates voluntarily ending their participation in the reality television competition rather than leaving through the regular eviction process.

Voluntary exits have occurred for different reasons, including medical concerns, personal circumstances and other situations that made it difficult for contestants to continue with the competition.

One of the more notable recent cases occurred during the 2025 edition of the show, when Sabrina Idukpaye voluntarily left the house on medical grounds. She exited on August 11, 2025, shortly after the first eviction of the season. Her medical situation was not publicly disclosed in detail.

Sabrina’s departure was different from the exits of Danboskid and Ibifubara, who were evicted by viewers during the first live eviction show. Otega and Kayikunmi subsequently left through the regular eviction process.

Over the years, other BBNaija seasons have also recorded housemates leaving before the scheduled end of their journeys. Such exits are generally distinguished from evictions, disqualifications and fake evictions because the decision to leave comes from the housemate.

The distinction became particularly important in Season 10, which began with 29 contestants and featured several different forms of departure. While Sabrina voluntarily withdrew, other contestants were removed following public votes, while others were affected by twists or disciplinary decisions.

A voluntary exit can significantly alter the dynamics inside the house because it reduces the number of contestants without the usual voting process. It can also affect nominations, relationships and the strategies of remaining housemates.

For viewers, voluntary withdrawals often generate considerable interest because they raise questions about the circumstances surrounding a contestant’s decision and whether the housemate might have continued competing had the situation been different.

It is important, however, not to classify every early departure as a voluntary exit. BBNaija has also recorded evictions, disqualifications and fake evictions, each of which follows a different process.

For example, Season 10 saw several contestants leave through public voting, while Faith was later disqualified following a physical altercation. These departures should not be included in a list of voluntary withdrawals.

The history of voluntary exits therefore remains a distinct part of BBNaija’s evolving format, reflecting the unpredictable nature of life inside the reality show and the different circumstances that can affect contestants during the competition.
