Alibaba is reportedly preparing to sell its gaming subsidiary, Lingxi Games, in a transaction valued at more than $2 billion, as the Chinese technology giant continues to streamline its operations and sharpen its focus on core growth areas.

The potential sale would mark a significant move in Alibaba’s broader restructuring strategy. The company has been reviewing its portfolio as it prioritises businesses with stronger long-term growth potential, particularly e-commerce, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Lingxi Games operates in China’s highly competitive gaming industry and has developed and published a range of mobile and online titles. A deal exceeding $2 billion would make the transaction a notable development for both Alibaba and the wider Chinese gaming sector.

The move reflects a growing trend among major technology companies to concentrate resources on their most strategic businesses while divesting assets considered less central to their future plans.

If completed, the sale could give Lingxi Games greater independence while allowing Alibaba to redirect capital and management attention toward its key technology and digital commerce businesses.
