Turkish newcomers Amedspor have completed the signing of Super Eagles winger Yira Sor from Belgian Pro League side Genk, adding another Nigerian international to their squad ahead of their historic debut in the Turkish Super Lig.
Amedspor confirmed Sor’s arrival on Monday through their official social media platforms, bringing an end to months of uncertainty surrounding the 26-year-old’s future in Belgium.
Sor joined Genk from Czech club Slavia Prague in January 2023 but struggled to establish himself consistently during his time in Belgium, with a series of injury setbacks limiting his appearances and opportunities.
The winger made his Super Eagles debut in March and will now hope his move to Turkey provides the regular playing time needed to regain his best form and strengthen his position in the national team.
Sor’s arrival also means he will reunite with compatriot Gift Orban, who recently joined Amedspor on a season-long loan from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
Orban’s agreement reportedly includes an obligation for Amedspor to make the transfer permanent if certain conditions are met.
The forward moved to Turkey after an uncertain spell at Hoffenheim, having spent last season on loan at Italian club Hellas Verona. He scored seven goals and registered three assists in 29 Serie A appearances but was unable to prevent Verona from suffering relegation.
With Sor and Orban now on board, Amedspor will have two Nigerian attacking options as they prepare for their first-ever campaign in Turkey’s top flight.
The club’s historic promotion has generated considerable excitement, and the addition of two Super Eagles players could provide further attacking quality as they prepare to compete against some of the biggest clubs in Turkish football.
Sor and Orban are also part of a growing number of Nigerian players making moves to Turkey this summer, with Kelechi Iheanacho having recently joined Turkish football as he begins a new chapter with Bursaspor.
For Sor, the transfer represents an opportunity to put his injury troubles behind him, secure regular football and make a significant impact as Amedspor embark on the biggest season in their history.
