The political activities of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections have intensified following a strategic meeting between the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with governorship candidates from Bauchi, Borno and Sokoto states.
The meeting was held at Kwankwaso’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the NDC.
Those in attendance included the party’s governorship candidates for Bauchi, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim; Sokoto, Dr Shamsu Aliyu; and Borno, Admiral Sunusi Sir Kashim Ibrahim (rtd.).
Also present were NDC leader and former federal lawmaker Buba Galadima, as well as the party’s chairmen in Kebbi and Sokoto states, Alhaji Mustapha Umar and Alhaji Bello Sani Yabo, respectively, alongside other party leaders.
The meeting focused on the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, with discussions centred on campaign coordination, candidate readiness and strategies for strengthening the party’s presence across the states.
The NDC said the engagement was aimed at ensuring greater coordination between the party’s national leadership, state structures and candidates as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
The meeting also highlights the growing political attention being given to the Bauchi, Borno and Sokoto governorship contests as parties position themselves for the 2027 electoral battle.
The NDC leadership is expected to sustain consultations with its candidates and state structures as it works towards building a coordinated campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
