Apple’s next-generation iPhone is expected to arrive next month, with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max reportedly set to headline Apple’s September 2026 launch event.

Unlike previous years, Apple is expected to change its iPhone release strategy. Reports indicate that the Pro models could arrive in September, while the standard iPhone 18 may be released later. Apple has not yet officially confirmed the iPhone 18 Pro launch date or specifications, so several details remain based on leaks and industry reports.

iPhone 18 Pro Release Date

Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026, potentially during an event in the first half of the month.

Recent reports have pointed to a September 9 launch event, although Apple has not officially confirmed that date. The phones would likely become available for pre-order shortly after the announcement, followed by retail availability later in September.

The biggest change could be the timing of the standard iPhone 18. Instead of launching alongside the Pro models, Apple is reportedly considering a staggered release, meaning consumers may have to wait until 2027 for the regular iPhone 18.

Expected Price

Apple has not announced pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro.

However, reports suggest that rising component and memory costs could put pressure on Apple’s pricing. Some analysts and reports expect the Pro models to become more expensive, although there is currently no confirmed U.S. starting price.

That means buyers should treat figures circulating online as estimates rather than official Apple pricing.

A20 Pro Chip Could Be the Biggest Upgrade

One of the most significant rumored upgrades is Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, which is expected to use a 2-nanometer manufacturing process.

The smaller process could improve performance and power efficiency while giving Apple more headroom for demanding artificial-intelligence workloads.

Reports also suggest that the chip could deliver a meaningful performance improvement over the A19 Pro while consuming less power.

Battery: Bigger Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Dramatically Longer

Battery improvements are also expected, although the latest leaks suggest the upgrade may be more complicated than simply adding a much larger battery.

A recent report claims the U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro could have a 4,288mAh battery, compared with a reported 4,252mAh capacity for the U.S. iPhone 17 Pro. That would represent only a small increase in physical battery capacity.

The Pro Max could receive a more substantial battery upgrade, with its larger chassis reportedly allowing Apple to increase capacity.

The combination of a more efficient 2nm processor, software optimization and improved thermal management could therefore be more important to real-world battery life than capacity alone.

Camera Upgrades

The camera system could receive one of the most interesting hardware changes in years.

The iPhone 18 Pro models are widely rumored to feature a 48-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture. Unlike a conventional fixed-aperture smartphone camera, a variable aperture would allow the lens to adjust how much light reaches the sensor.

That could provide greater control over exposure and depth of field, potentially improving photography in different lighting conditions.

A new front-facing camera and additional improvements to Apple’s computational photography system are also expected.

Smaller Dynamic Island

Apple could also reduce the size of the Dynamic Island.

Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro may use a smaller version of the Dynamic Island, potentially giving users more screen area while retaining Face ID functionality. Some rumors have gone further, suggesting that parts of the Face ID system could eventually move beneath the display.

However, these display changes remain unconfirmed and should be treated as leaks rather than specifications.

New Modem and Connectivity

Another expected change is Apple’s next-generation C2 modem.

Apple has been increasingly developing its own modem technology, and reports suggest the C2 could bring improvements in connectivity and power efficiency.

If accurate, the move would further reduce Apple’s reliance on external modem suppliers while giving the company greater control over the iPhone’s hardware and software integration.

What About the Foldable iPhone?

The iPhone 18 Pro launch could also be accompanied by Apple’s long-rumored first foldable iPhone.

Recent reports suggest Apple could introduce a premium foldable device alongside the Pro lineup in September. The rumored device is sometimes referred to as the iPhone Ultra, although Apple has not confirmed either the name or the product.

If launched, it would represent one of the biggest changes to Apple’s iPhone strategy since the original iPhone.

Bottom Line

The iPhone 18 Pro could be one of Apple’s most significant iPhone upgrades in several years, particularly if the rumored 2nm A20 Pro chip, variable-aperture camera and redesigned front-facing technology make it into the final product.

However, Apple has yet to officially announce the device. The September launch window, pricing, battery capacities and several hardware specifications remain unconfirmed.

For now, the safest expectation is that iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be unveiled in September 2026, with Apple expected to reveal the final specifications and pricing at its launch event.
