The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56 year old man suspected of distributing illicit drugs and recovered 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence led operation in Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development on Sunday in Asaba.
Edafe said the operation was carried out on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence about activities at a suspected criminal hideout in Owa Abbi.
According to him, the operatives raided the location and arrested a suspect identified as Lucky Oyiboka, 56.
A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, which were taken into police custody as exhibits.
Police Investigate Suspected Drug Network
Edafe said preliminary investigations indicated that Oyiboka was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
He added that investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities, trace the source of the suspected drugs and identify their intended distribution channels.
The police are also working to establish whether other individuals are connected to the alleged drug distribution network.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
The command said the operation was part of its sustained intelligence led campaign against criminal networks and the circulation of illicit substances in Delta State.
It added that the operation was in line with the strategic policing initiatives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at disrupting criminal enterprises and strengthening public safety.
The Delta State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, activities and locations that could assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime.
The command said it would continue intelligence led operations across the state to apprehend criminal suspects and disrupt the distribution of illicit substances.
