The Nigerian naira remained stable at N1,837 to one British pound in the foreign exchange market as renewed strength in the United States dollar continued to weigh on the value of the British pound in global currency trading.
Market analysts said the dollar’s gains were driven by stronger investor demand and expectations surrounding monetary policy, leading to increased pressure on major currencies, including the pound sterling. Despite these global movements, the naira maintained relative stability against the pound during the trading period.
Currency dealers noted that improved liquidity in the foreign exchange market and sustained interventions by monetary authorities have contributed to the naira’s steadier performance against some international currencies in recent weeks.
Financial experts observed that exchange rate movements continue to be influenced by global economic conditions, interest rate expectations and investor sentiment, with fluctuations in the US dollar having a significant impact on other major currencies.
They added that while the naira has shown signs of stability, businesses and importers remain watchful of developments in the international foreign exchange market, as changes in global currency trends could affect import costs and domestic prices.
Analysts believe continued reforms aimed at boosting foreign exchange inflows, increasing non oil exports and improving investor confidence will be critical to sustaining stability in Nigeria’s currency market over the long term.
The latest exchange rate movement highlights the interconnected nature of global financial markets, where shifts in the strength of major currencies continue to influence trading patterns and exchange rates worldwide.
